We moved to Dubai in 1994 when it was considered a hardship posting and started our family. We built our life around what became a booming city and were part of its success. We made many great friends and acquaintances along the way. This 30-year journey gives us great sense of pride and community support.

Workz

The owners of DUSU built WORKZ - a global telecoms manufacturer, logistics, remote provisioning and supply chain business based in Dubai.

Workz was created by the divestiture of Brightpoint Middle East’s handset distribution, fulfillment and FONO retail operations from Brightpoint Inc. (NASDAQ: CELL).
Brightpoint was Nokia’s third largest handset distributor globally at the time and Brightpoint Dubai operated handset distribution facilities in Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong.

FONO was Brightpoint Dubai’s partnership with the Al Maktoum family supporting a Nokia retail handset distribution sales channel. FONO owned or operated over 20 branded telecom retail stores in the Middle East and Gulf States. Axiom Telecom UAE, led by Faisal al Bannai, acquired FONO in 2005.
Workz spun off its interest in the Nokia handset distribution business and formed a regional network operator consultancy business. Soon after, Workz built a regional telecoms card manufacturing, packaging and logistics facility based in Dubai Production City. Workz quickly expanded to provide local, secure GSMA connectivity solutions by developing local eSIM and IOT provisioning systems and partners. To provide global services, Workz built AWS cloud-based solutions. These initiatives repositioned Workz at the forefront of the GSM remote provisioning industry globally, reset our trajectory and set the stage for the sale of Workz.
Over 25 years, Workz became known for its global logistics, distribution, operational consultancy (ProWorkz) and retail operations (FONO) based in Dubai with in-country operations in Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, South Africa, Oman, Jordan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and India.
Workz customers included global network operators DU, Etisalat, Zain, Ooredoo, Virgin Mobile, and Vodafone with industry telecoms software leaders like Kigen, ARM, Softbank and global SIM card manufacturers including Gemalto, Oberthur and Morpho.
Workz was built with a clear sales vision that included process, procedure, supply chain efficiency, manufacturing quality and operational excellence.
Workz received multiple industry recognitions including:
– Top-10 global SIM card producer (GSMA)
– World’s largest recharge card manufacturer (Nilson Report)
– 13th largest SIM manufacturer globally (Nilson Report)
– Leader in global SIM and scratch-card manufacturing (numerous)
– GSMA certifications for eSIM and remote provisioning

Workz growth strategies included transitioning from a telecoms handset trader to a telecoms card manufacturer, network operator consultant and supply chain management company. Ultimately the timely recognition of significant industry technological changes, including electronic prepaid top ups and SIM card “dematerialization”, drove the successful migration from a physical telecom card manufacturer to a global eSIM supplier and GSMA remote provisioning partner supporting the IOT revolution.
